We are Advocates for Race Amity in Pinellas County (AFRA), a diverse group of individuals from a variety of racial, cultural, and faith backgrounds, united by a shared belief: that friendship across racial and cultural lines is essential to creating a more just, compassionate, and inclusive community.
As a local chapter of the National Center for Race Amity (NCRA), we work to build bridges, not barriers, by uplifting the often overlooked stories o connection and collaboration in American history. This is what the NCRA calls "The Other Tradition".
Through our programs and outreach, we aim to:
Support the recognition of Race Amity Day in our local community
Foster meaningful conversations that spark understanding and empathy
Reflect on our own growth and encourage accountability in ourselves and our communities
Connect with like-minded individuals who believe in friendship as a foundation for change
Share resources and stories that highlight the spirit of race amity
Whether we're hosting an event, building community partnerships, or sharing resources, our goal remains the same: to elevate amity, not animosity, as a path to racial equity.
Amity means friendship and we believe it's more than just being kind. It's about active relationship-building that transcends boundaries, dismantles prejudice, and promotes unity.
We focus on three pillars:
Social: Meet new people across races, cultures, and religions
Educational: Learn the real stories of Race Amity and our shared history
Community: Celebrate and promote Race Amity Day in your city
If you're passionate about making a difference through connection, we'd love to collaborate with you.
